In compliance with the MLB’s COVID-19 protocols, the White Sox have placed left fielder Andrew Vaughn on the injured list. Vaughn could return sooner rather than later, as was the case with Dylan Cease in a precautionary move in April. But as of now, the White Sox have called up Gavin Sheets in Vaughn's place.
Sheets has slashed .319/.360/.500 with four home runs in 23 games for AAA Charlotte so far this season. He will get a crack at an outfield currently plagued with injuries. Billy Hamilton, Danny Mendick, Leury García, and Jake Lamb have done a commendable job off of the bench, so White Sox fans should look forward to the 2017 second-rounder getting his shot, too.
With Vaughn temporarily on the shelf, tonight's starting outfield will consist of Lamb, Hamilton, and Adam Eaton from left to right.
Tonight's contest is the first of a four-game series against the Detroit Tigers, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Sheets make his MLB debut sometime over the weekend.
