Ahead of the middle contest in a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers, the Chicago White Sox made a roster move to add a valuable piece of their outfield back to the clubhouse.

Adam Engel returns from the injured list, where he landed on August 16 (retroactive to August 13) due to left shoulder inflammation.

In a corresponding move, the White Sox optioned infielder Romy Gonzalez to Triple-A Charlotte. Gonzalez slashed .250/.273/.344 with three doubles and two RBIs across 10 games for the South Siders during his first taste of MLB action.

Getting Engel back in the mix is an extremely positive development for the White Sox. While a slew of injuries has limited the speedy outfielder to just 33 games with the big-league club this season, Engel has been an impact player during his time on the field. He owns a .248/.339/.505 slash line, seven home runs, and 18 RBIs -- good for a 131 wRC+ -- in 121 plate appearances for the White Sox in 2021.

Upon returning from his rehab assignment with the Charlotte Knights, Adam Engel will jump right back into action with the Sox. Manager Tony La Russa tabbed Engel to bat eighth and play right field for today as the White Sox look to even the series against the Tigers.
