Jim Callis of MLB.com reports that the White Sox and their fifth round pick, Bailey Horn, have agreed to a deal.
Horn’s bonus will be around $150,000, a tad shy of the pick's slot value of $386,600. This is likely a result of fellow draft picks Jared Kelley and Garrett Crochet receiving above-slot money.
There is a good chance that Rick Hahn and company knew their first two picks would require above-slot money, and they would have to pick a player they like later that would cost less than slot. It seems like the White Sox found that player with Horn in the fifth round.
The college pitcher pitched to a 4.75 ERA, a 7-3 record, and stuck out 58 batters over 55 collegiate innings in two seasons at Auburn University.
