The Forbidden Door is about to swing open again on this week's episode of AEW Dynamite. But which wrestler will make their way to AEW?
Tony Khan recently announced that not only is this wrestler showing up Wednesday to sign a contract, but the new addition will also be competing in a match. It will be against Isiah Kassidy in a qualifier match for the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match. The list of names is endless really, so let's dive into the possibilities.
The first candidate is Keith Lee, who is officially a free agent. Reports have already surfaced indicating Lee is locked into a contract with AEW and the company is working out the details regarding his debut.
But Lee got married over this past weekend, so does that mean he isn't showing up this week? That's a pretty big life milestone, so it could mean that AEW fans might not see him for a few more weeks.
The most notable name would be Jeff Hardy. But the major hang-up in that scenario is that his non-compete clause doesn't expire until early March... or so we are all led to believe.
Could his contract have a loophole now that he got his test results back? There is no doubt that this would be the biggest signing of all the names on the list.
NJPW Candidates: Will Ospreay?
Digging a bit deeper, could the Forbidden Door candidate be someone that is looking to come over from NJPW? AEW does have a very good relationship with that company. Some of the potential NJPW names include Jay White, Will Ospreay, and even Tama Tonga. The name that particularly sticks out among that group is Will Ospreay.
He has issues with several wrestlers in AEW. Furthermore, it would be a strong fit for another top young star in the company.
The aforementioned candidates don't mark the end of the list either. Several other names have recently become free agents as well, including Killer Kross, Johnny Gargano, Samoa Joe, and many more. You could even count Cody Rhodes as a free agent since he is only working on a handshake deal.
Finally, some names have been around in other companies or participating in alternate projects, such as Windham Rotunda and Titan Scheer. Perhaps AEW fans will finally see Rotunda return to the ring after taking some time for himself and his movie career.
And of course, it could even be a name we didn’t mention here.
Tony Khan will surely want to deliver on this announcement because some fans are still skeptical after the hype behind the Christian Cage signing from last year. Regardless, we will find out who walks through the Forbidden Door when tonight's installment of AEW Dynamite airs at 7 PM CST on TBS.
